Philip has been a Partner in Clintons’ Corporate and Commercial department since 1996. He heads up the firm’s Brands & Marketing Services practice.


Philip advises on the legal and commercial issues surrounding owner managed businesses and in particular the businesses of creative people and the brands that they create and work with. He has over 20 years' experience in helping businesses develop from start up to exit, advising on intellectual property, corporate, commercial and personnel issues. He enjoys being able to make introductions and recommendations to his clients where he can. He also has a longstanding interest and involvement in sport and advises individuals and organisations involved in the sports business. 


His clients include leading advertising and marketing services businesses, luxury brands, artists and art dealers, digital media and publishing businesses, cinematic and theatrical rights owners, bands, entertainers, product and fashion designers, authors, Olympic medal winners and mass participation event owners.


Education, recognition and appointments:


Trustee of the Swimathon Foundation, owners of the world's largest pool based fund-raising swim and other swimming events, which take place throughout the UK each year with some 25,000 participants.


Member of the newly constituted independent European Athletics Court.


Member of the European Sponsorship Association and author of the legal section of that organisation's Diploma qualification.

Recommended in the Legal 500 for his work both in Brand Management and in Media and Entertainment.


Trained and qualified at Richards Butler (now Reed Smith) in the City and joined Clintons as a Partner in 1996.


Graduate of Worcester College, Oxford University.
