Shane Richie awarded record damages in MGN phone hacking trial.

Clintons' client Shane Richie has been awarded £155,000 in damages for misuse of his private information by MGN arising out of its journalists hacking into his voicemails on an 'industrial scale'. During the three week trial in the High Court, Mr Justice Mann heard that Mr Richie had been hacked twice daily for a period of 6 years, being an unprecedented infringement of privacy.  Mr Richie was one of the 8 representative claimants to have their claims heard in March 2015.  MGN was ordered to pay total damages in excess of £1.2m to the 8 claimants, which dwarfs the previous maximum award of £60,000 in UK privacy cases.  Mr Richie's solicitor, Roddy Chisholm Batten, has settled 5 claims in the Mirror Newspapers Hacking Litigation and has a further 10 claims ongoing.  He expects many more claims to be brought in the light of this ground breaking judgement.
