Mirror Group Phone Hacking Settlements A number of clients of the firm, including Cilla Black, Peter Andre and Jessie Wallace, have recently accepted substantial damages and written apologies from Mirror Group Newspapers in settlement of their claims for misuse of private information arising out of the interception of their voicemails by journalists at The Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and The People.  In a statement read on 22 January 2015, the High Court was told that these claimants ‘have all expressed their feelings of distress and anger that their private information has been treated in this way, and their privacy has been so grossly violated by these newspapers solely for profit’.  MGN’s counsel said that MGN ‘accepts that the methods which were used to obtain private information about these [claimants] through the unlawful accessing of their voicemails and the obtaining of their personal information should never have been employed’ and that there was ‘no legitimate justification’ for doing so.  He offered ‘sincere apologies’ on MGN’s behalf.
